Let’s be honest. Shopping at Publix is expensive. There is no way around that fact. The higher priced goods pays for the better management/service, whiter floors/walls and brighter lights. Publix is the Chick-fil-a of grocery stores. If you are not actively trying to save money at Publix, you will spend a lot more money at Publix versus other grocery chains. Below are five ways to help you save money when you shop at Publix.
Digital Coupons
Publix offers digital coupons if you sign up online for Club Publix. Club Publix is a free loyalty program which gives you access to savings, personalization and convenience. Sign up to get access to digitally clip manufacturer coupons on Publix’s website.
Publix will have around 200-300 digital coupons made available to be clipped on their website, with new coupons added daily. The coupons are mostly manufacturer coupons, but at times Publix will add coupons related to their deli ad bakery.
It is tough to clip all of the available coupons one by one on Publix’s website. It would take a lot of time and patience to get through them all, so we built a free tool to automatically clip coupons, called Coupon Admin. Coupon Admin is offered as a free Chrome Extension for desktop or a Bookmarklet for mobile/desktop. There is no login or account setup needed to use either option. Coupon Admin will work on other grocery sites as well. Check out Coupon Admin’s demo page, here.
BOGOs – Buy one, get one
BOGO deals are Publix’s claim to fame. If you speak to any casual Publix shopper, they will save they love their BOGO deals. I do not know if this a true fact but I think they started BOGO deals before they had digital coupons. BOGO deals do not require any signup or loyalty account. They are deals Publix offers to all customers.
In some states you do not have to buy two products to get the half price deal. You only need to purchase one of the product to get it at half price. Publix stores in Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, and the northern portions of Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, are the areas that follow this practice.
Publix states on their Coupon Policy site they offer at least 30 BOGO deals every week. At the time of writing this post, Publix is offering 112 BOGO deals. Visit their BOGO page to see the latest deals.
Competitor Coupons
Publix will accept competitor coupons for identical items, however, there are a few special items to consider before attempting to redeem a competitor’s coupon.
- Ask Publix’s Customer Service for a list of acceptable competitors.
- Publix will accept private label coupons.
- Publix will accept BOGO coupon for identical product.
- Publix will honor a gift card deal, example; “if you purchase these products, you will receive a $5 gift card”.
- Publix will honor competitor’s coupon if received from signing up for a competitor’s newsletter/loyalty program.
- Publix will honor competitor’s loyalty program coupons for identical merchandise.
Manufacturer Coupons
Manufacturer coupons are always accepted at Publix, but there are a few exceptions:
- Publix limits only 8 coupons for the same product per day.
- Manufacturer coupon can be combined with a Publix coupon or competitor coupon, but not both.
- Cannot combine different manufacturer coupons for the same product. Only one type of manufacturer coupon can be redeemed.
- Paper manufacturer coupons cannot be added with digital manufacturer coupons.
Weekly Ad / Extra Savings
Before the newspaper died, stores would prepare a weekly ad to be included. Their ad would contain the special promotions and deals they were offering that week. Publix now offers the weekly ad online, here. There they will show more “5 for $10” type of deals and products with temporary savings.
Related to the weekly ad, Publix has another section called Extra Savings. This seems to be a list of the deals from their weekly ad and more. You do not need to do anything to receive these deals. This list is more informative than anything else. Be sure to check it out. To help you manage these savings, Publix makes it available to add the items to a digital list so you can record what you want to purchase.
